A Rare Opportunity to Acquire an Exceptionally Original, Unmolested & Very Desirable 1991 Defender 90 Short Wheel Base.
USA EXPORTABLE, original chassis and matching numbers.
The vehicle was first registered 12th August 1991. It has been in longer term ownership all its life hence why it is in such good original condition. The first owner had the vehicle from 1991 until 1996. The second owner had the vehicle from 1996 until 2000 and the last owner had it from 2000 until 2020 when it came into our care.
It has a warranted mileage of 72,280 miles. Previous mots to date which shows the very small increase in mileage every year. It comes complete with old mots and its original owners manual. The vehicle still even has it'a original toolkit.
Unique in such original condition and we think this is one of the lowest mileage best original un-restored 1991 examples available.
A very rare find indeed and one unlikely ever to be repeated - truly remarkable!
To find an unmolested example has become very hard, but to find one that has only covered seventy two thousand miles, retains all of its original panels, its original chassis, engine, gearbox, interior and even all of its original factory paint finish well that's unheard of..............
BODYWORK
When we acquired J885 SBL we where amazed to find the body and paint finish is 100% original, and way above the average 29 year old Land Rover. However, J885 SBL is not your average Land Rover, it is extraordinary.
The wheels are later Boost alloys, however the vehicle can be supplied with factory correct examples should the buyer wish.
The bulkhead is exceptionally solid and original, in fact as good as we have ever seen including both original footwells. No welding has been done and non is required.
The underside has been steam cleaned and the original chassis is in excellent condition with no underseal just a clean painted chassis. No welding is required anywhere on this vehicle and it is now ready to go.
INTERIOR
The original factory fitted front seat backs and bases are in good condition they have never been replaced and are the originals to the vehicle.
The dash is unmarked with no cracks or sun damage there are no additional holes anywhere.
A period radio is fitted, the rest of the dashboard has been left unmolested. The doors are all in good condition and we have fitted new bottom sections, however you can't see they have been done.
The load area is clean with the correct ribbed rear mat. Matching rear cloth bench seats are fitted.
UNDER THE BONNET
One of the best original engine bays we have seen on a 200 TDI Defender 90 with the correct defender engine with the turbo on top of the manifold. Be careful for USA export it must be the original engine and not a discovery 200 Tdi. This vehicle is 100% correct for export.
Original paint to engine block. The engine which runs and drives perfectly with plenty of power and it much better than its predecessor. The TDI engines are all mechanical and are very sought after with a majority now having over 180,000 on the clock.
ON THE ROAD
The factory fitted engine busts into life on the turn of the key. It is apparent that this is a vehicle that has been maintained and covered low mileage it runs as quiet and smooth as any Land Rover that we have ever had.
A joy to drive and such fun, the vehicle will be supplied with a full 12-month MOT with no advisories. Four wheel drive and low range engage, as they should. The gears change up and down as they should it has a very quiet gearbox which is a good sign of its light use and good maintenance over the years. The vehicle will also come fully serviced.
SUMMARY
J885 SBL is an unmolested Defender 90 in immaculate original condition. All the numbers match - the chassis numbers on the plates are the same as on the log book registration document and that stamped on the chassis itself. The engine number also matches that recorded on the logbook.
This is one of the best low mileage and original untouched 90's we have ever had the opportunity to own with a very nice history.
This Land Rover has obviously been cared for and cherished by its owner and no expense spared on maintenance.
It is a very solid example that requires no work and is ready to use and enjoy.
