Land Rover Series 1 80" Lights Behind the Grille

First built 14th June 1949 despatched from the factory 17th June 1949 to Stanwix Garages Limited, Carlisle, Cumbria. Originally registered JAO 589 which the vehicle still retains today.

The vehicle was used on the Lowther Estate for much of its life. The vehicle then moved to Mr.Elliott's estate in Troutbeck Cumbria this was in the late 1980's, he owned the vehicle until 2016 when Mr. Walker found it in a barn and managed to acquire the vehicle. This is believed to be a genuine 3 owner vehicle from new. Mr.Walker then carried out the task of having the vehicle recommissioned and took it to a local Land Rover specialist for evaluation.

This specialist quite rightly advised keeping it in as original specification as possible and to effect repairs as any previous owners would.

The only exception to this was the front bulkhead which had started to fail under the screen, so it was stripped and replaced. The chassis, running gear and all other remedial work was carried out at the same time. The invoices totals over £10,000 was spent recommissioning the vehicle.

A detailed list of works carried out can be shown to any interested party.

The rear tub unlike most Land Rovers is remarkably straight in the back and doesn't show any signs of hard use and can be fitted with rear bench seats should the buyer require. This is a desirable lights behind the grille model.

Most original components have been reconditioned. When some parts were found to be beyond repair, original Land Rover new-old stock components were used.

UNDER THE BONNET

The engine bay is well presented. The overhaul included the distributor and carburettor, the original radiator is date stamped May 1949.

The vehicle has recently been serviced and is now ready to use and enjoy.

ON THE ROAD

The engine busts into life on the turn of the key. It always starts first time and is a great runner. The vehicle really does pull very well and is a joy to drive.

With the canvas sides rolled up and the door tops off this vehicle really does draw some attention. If you like you can remove everything as shown in the pictures and fold the windscreen down.

The vehicle will be supplied with a 12 month MOT although exempt from road tax and mot this will be done to give the buyer peace of mind. It has the original permanent four wheel drive ring pull gearbox.

The gears change up and down as they should and the main box was checked over by a specialist and necessary parts replaced.

SUMMARY

This is a fantastic example of an original and very useable Series 1 80". All the numbers match - the chassis numbers on the plates are the same as on the log book registration document and that stamped on the chassis itself.

The chassis is in superb condition even retaining the original rear crossmember and is one of the best Uk supplied vehicle's that we have seen.

This is one of the best value for money 1949 80" we have ever had the opportunity to own. This Land Rover has obviously been cared for and cherished by its few previous owners. It is a fantastic example that requires no work and is ready to use and enjoy.

If you are an investor then you will already know how these vehicles have appreciated over the last 5 years some doubling in value.

This a very honest 71 year old Series Land Rover. What you see is what you get it looks and drives exactly as it should. You will have to go a long way to find a better and more honest vehicle.

All in all, a lovely example of a 1949 Land Rover and we think it is really good value for money and has been priced to sell. So please don't think it is a lesser quality vehicle.
