SOLD

Range Rover Classic Suffix D 1975 Only 67,000 Miles

A Rare Opportunity to Acquire an Exceptionally Original, Unmolested & Very Desirable Suffix D Range Rover.

Just 67,000 miles from new. Supplied new by Evans & Cutler (Plymouth) Ltd on 28th May 1975. The first owner was Mr. Tope the vehicle then passed onto his son, the family owned the vehicle until 2014. 39 years of the same ownership which is one of the main reasons this vehicle has survived in such great condition today. Since 2014 the vehicle has been in a private collection.

The vehicle has an extensive history file including the original Rover Passport to Service book, Owners Manual, lots of receipts for parts and work carried out to the vehicle over the years. Some dating as far back as the 1980's. The vehicle even has all its original toolkit, jack, tyre pump, starting handle.

This vehicle has been kept rust free and has stayed in a very rust free environment for most of its life, the inner wings, rear floor and chassis are all very good and solid.

Unique in such original condition and we think this is one of the lowest mileage best original un-restored Suffix D examples available.

Retaining all of its original panels and all of its original paint.

A very rare find indeed and one unlikely ever to be repeated - truly remarkable!

To find an unmolested example has become very hard, but to find one that is so rust free only covered sixty-seven thousand miles, retains all of its original panels, its original chassis, interior, paintwork well that's unheard of..............

BODYWORK

When we acquired HTK 490P with the exception of a few very minor scratches and some areas where the paint has worn through there was no damage on the vehicle.

The body is 100% original, and way above the average 47 year old Range Rover. However HTK 490P is not your average Land Rover, it is extraordinary.

It has benefited from a light polish and wax on all panels.

The wheels are finished in silver, which is factory correct for this vehicle.

The bulkhead is exceptionally solid and original, in fact as good as we have ever seen.

It retains it's original rear cross member which has never been welded. The underside has not been covered in under seal but preserved in great condition. You can still see the factory overspray under the wings and rear body this is exactly how they left the factory. No welding is required anywhere on this vehicle and it is ready to go.

The roof is in excellent condition and has no dents or scratches and nothing as been retro fitted or any ariels or additional holes.

The vehicle still retains all it’s original Lucas headlights, lenses for indicators, side lights and brake lights which is nice to see as these items are now obsolete.

INTERIOR

Exemplary - the interior has been very well finished including the original headlining, door cards, seats and carpet and rear moulded rubber floor mat.

A very rare find indeed and one unlikely ever to be repeated - truly remarkable!

The dash is unmarked with no cracks or sun damage.

A period Radio has been fitted and the rest of the dashboard had been left unmolested. All windows open, all the window rubbers are good and because the vehicle has been kept under cover not rusted away as so often is the case.

The load area is exceptionally clean and doesn't show any sights of heavy use. This vehicle has not had a working life.

ON THE ROAD

The original 3.5 litre V8 engine busts into life on the turn of the key. It is apparent that this is a vehicle that has been maintained and covered low mileage it runs as quiet and smooth as any 3.5 V8 engine. The gearbox is very nice and the vehicle benefits from a factory fitted Fairey Overdrive. The vehicle has also been fitted with a set of matching tyres.

A joy to drive and such fun, the vehicle will be supplied with a 12-month MOT with no advisories. Four wheel drive and low range engage, as they should. The gears change up and down as they should it has a very quite gearbox which is a good sign of it's light use over the years.

Almost all Land Rovers we have had drip a little oil, some quite a lot, HTK 490P is the exception though no drips of oil to speak of even after standing for days in the same place.

The steering is as it should be and the vehicle doesn't wonder on the road. This particular vehicle is fitted with power steering.

SUMMARY

HTK 490P is a lovely useable example in immaculate original condition. For a fraction of the price of a fully restored vehicle. At £125-150,000, the vehicle would even make a great donor vehicle to restore as it is so compete and solid, however it is far better and doesn't need any work it just wants to be used and enjoyed this summer. All the numbers match - the chassis numbers on the plates are the same as on the log book registration document and that stamped on the chassis itself. The engine number also matches that recorded on the logbook.

This Land Rover has obviously been cared for and cherished by its previous owners.

It is very solid example that requires no work and is ready to use and enjoy.

It retains its original chassis, still displays the V.I.N clearly stamped on it by the factory.

If you are an investor you will already known the growing importance of original un-messed with condition for classic cars. If you are an enthusiast then you will not be disappointed with this vehicle as it is perfect in almost ever detail and is exactly as it left the factory 47 years ago.

This is a very honest 47-year-old Series Land Rover.

What you see is what you get. - albeit with a few aged dings, scratches and marks. Please therefore do not expect absolutely pristine. However you will have to go a long way to find a better vehicle.

VALUE

Low mileage, history, condition, and originality will contribute greatly to the value of any classic. Anybody can restore a Land Rover to a certain standard however you can't make anymore-original low mileage vehicles and so for that reason these vehicles are becoming increasingly harder to find and so any opportunity to buy one shouldn't be missed.
