Land Rover Series 1 80" 1952 Ex Military Light Stone

This lovely example was part of a special military order of 202 vehicles supplied by Land Rover in Light Stone to the War Department for the Miltary in late February 1952. The vehicle was based on Kinmel Camp, 2 miles away from where we are located in North Wales. So special we couldn't miss the opportunity to take the vehicle back to Kinmel Camp to photograph it after 48 years away.

Built 25th February 1952 and despatched from the factory 28th February 1952. The vehicle was first registered 20th May 1976. John Craddock purchased the vehicle from the camp where it was used as an army driving simulator. The vehicle had no wheels as it was mounted on tripods, no hood, and no door tops. The pedals were painted red, yellow and green. The vehicle had 4,000 miles on the clock which could not be guaranteed but from the condition of the bodywork which is still the original panels to this day and how the vehicle drove it could very well be. It now shows 5,300 miles. All the running gear is original, axle casings have no pitting, chassis and bulkhead have both never seen a repair.

In 1970 John Craddock fitted wheels, a hood and door tops. he also painted the vehicle which he says he still regrets today as it would have been one of the most original series 1's in the world. The vehicle carried one of John's private plates JC 8689.

From 1972 - mid 1980's it was a static display vehicle in the John Craddock showroom in Cannock. It was then stored in their heated warehouse. the vehicle was driven by John to the 35th Anniversary rally in Anglesey in 1983 and then was parked up and not used until John sold the vehicle in 2014.

The vehicle has now been fully restored and presented in its original colour. There are pictures of the restoration and also receipts and a list of costs for the restoration. The restoration started in 2017 and was completed in 2020. This vehicle has had a nut and bolt restoration and has been down to the chassis, with all the running gear rebuilt and inspected, new brakes, hoses, electrics, suspension etc.

We have had the vehicle from a Land Rover collector who has decided to sell his whole collection we brought various vehicles off him 12 months ago and this was the last one to go. So clearly one he cherished the most.

This vehicle is now ready to go and has been fully serviced by ourselves and will come with 12 months mot and 3 months warranty.

You will have to go a long way to find a better more complete and original example. The price is reflecting the current Series 1 market, now is a time to buy and an example like this will go back up in the future.
