Land Rover Series 2a 1962 109" Ex West Sussex Fire Brigade
A rare opportunity to acquire a unique and interesting example of a period fire engine.
Originally commissioned by West Sussex Fire Brigade as an open pump unit carrying a Hathaway 60/60 lightweight portable pump.
This 1962 Land Rover Series 2A has been restored to its former glory with its Dove Grey exterior and Elephant Hide trim and comes with an extensive history log and original photos. It was de-commissioned in 1981 when it was purchased by a Plant Fire Protection company in Kent who removed the pump and other equipment and added a van type body and repainted the exterior of the vehicle Red.
In 1987 it was used for three years by the Fire Service Benevolent fund based in Coventry before being purchased by a private keeper in 1991 where it was moved to Hertfordshire. It was later purchased by another private keeper in 2006 based in Slough before the last owner purchased the vehicle in July 2013 who completed the restoration and recommissioning of the vehicle.
The vehicle has been subject to a nut and bolt restoration and has been completely stripped back to chassis. There are so many new parts that have been fitted too much to list.
New cylinders and brake shoes were fitted as well as a new master cylinder. Repairs have been carried out to the outriggers, although the main chassis was already in excellent condition. A full repaint has taken place to restore the vehicle to its former Dove Grey exterior. However the seat box and floor panels remain as the original paint. Many original parts have been restored and re-used. Any parts beyond repair have been replaced with genuine quality parts. A new heavy duty, better quality, clutch kit was fitted in 2020 and it comes complete with restored Hathaway Pump and Hosereel. Genuine Lucas Acorn Light and Winkworth Bell also fitted. There is currently just over 29k miles on the clock and there are many photos and further details of the restoration that has taken place which can be provided on request.
