Land Rover Series 3 Lightweight Soft Top Military 1973 Ex Sean Bean Actor
Fully restored, 12 volt vehicle, 2.25 petrol model.
Fitted to a new galvanised chassis.
A rare opportunity to acquire an exceptional example of a very desirable Land Rover Series 3 Lightweight Soft Top with some great prominence.
We are currently waiting on the vehicle's military history and will update the listing once we have it.
First registered for road use 8th January 1981, when it was demobbed. The vehicle was sold off at a gala dinner organised by Sheffield United Football Club. The auction took place at the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire's stately home, Chatsworth House.
The Land Rover, a unique one-off lot, which had been personalised with Bean's signature, was donated by the star to raise funds for the cancer charity.
Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity , which is the dedicated charity for the Sheffield-based hospital, said it was 'overwhelmed' by the actor's generosity. Since the auction in 2015 the vehicle has undergone a nut and bolt restoration which cost in excess of £20,000.00

BODYWORK
The body is overall in great shape and all the panels are remarkably straight considering it is an ex military vehicle.
The rear tub unlike most Land Rovers is remarkably straight in the back and doesn't show any signs of hard use and is fitted with two bench seats.
The bulkhead is exceptionally solid and even has it's original pressed footwells which are both in remarkable condition and require no attention.
The vehicle is fitted with a new galvanised chassis.
This vehicle has always had a spare wheel fitted on the bonnet it is in good condition and secured correctly with the straps. There is camouflage netting on the wheel and also more netting in the back to put over the vehicle at shows.
The tyres are all in good condition with plenty of tread.
INTERIOR
The vehicle has the original smiths square heater mounted to the centre of the bulkhead with demisters for the windscreen.
The load area is exceptionally clean and doesn't show any sights of heavy use. A heavy duty rear mat has been fitted, underneath the floor is in good condition.
UNDER THE BONNET
The engine bay has been left completely standard, including the original 2.25 petrol engine, 12 volt system the engine runs very well. It really does drive well with plenty of power and will happily sit at 60mph without any problem.
ON THE ROAD
The engine busts into life on the turn of the key. It always starts first time and is a great runner. The vehicle really does pull very well and is a joy to drive. The is no play in the drivetrain and it drives very well.
The vehicle will be supplied with a 12 month MOT with no advisories.
The gears change up and down as they should the main box and transfer box both function correctly.
Almost all Series Land Rovers we have had drip a little oil, some quite a lot, this is the exception though no drips of oil to speak of even after standing for days in the same place.
SUMMARY
This is a fantastic example of a Series 3 lightweight and there aren't many around in such nice condition with a famous previous owner and in such great condition. All the numbers match - the chassis numbers on the plates are the same as on the log book registration document and that stamped on the chassis itself.
This Land Rover has obviously been cared for and cherished by its previous owners. It is a fantastic example that requires no work and is ready to use and enjoy.
