The Mercedes C63 AMG range gained a swansong special via the Edition 507. Available on all C63 variants, prices start at £67,270 for the Saloon, the Estate and Coupe each costing an identical £68,470. All models see a rise of £9995 over standard. This vehicle is a fast as the black series for a fraction of the price. It represents great value for money and is surely to be a collectable car in the future.
The Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Edition 507 gets the ‘M156’ V8, with a revised ECU, new conrods, a lightweight crankshaft and forged pistons adopted from the SLS AMG. This brings a weight saving of three kilograms to the internals, while cogs are swapped via the familiar and sharp-shifting (for an auto) MCT seven-speed transmission.
With 500bhp (507 PS), it’s not the most powerful engine fitted to a C63 – the Black Series and the DR520 (a sold-out 20-run special) produce 510bhp and 513bhp respectively – but it does offer a useful 49bhp increase over the standard car (451bhp) and 20bhp over the C63 with the optional Performance Pack (480bhp). The engine internals are the same as those fitted to the Performance Pack, DR520 and Black Series and allow the 507 to complete 0-60 in 4.2sec – two tenths quicker than the basic C63 and the same as the Black. The limiter is also lifted, seeing the top speed rise from 155 to 174mph.
The 507 wears a set of gorgeously spidery 19in forged alloy wheels, while the front axle gets new 360mm ‘composite’ brake discs. That’s not carbon-composite, however, but weight-saving aluminium for the inner ‘barrel’ and cast iron for the outer disc.
